HOLI: The Festival of Colors!

Today at our local Hare Krishna Temple (Spanish Fork) we celebrated HOLI. Since I'm not the best person to explain what that is, this is what the website says, "In India Holi announces the arrival of spring and the passing of winter. It is a festival that breathes an atmosphere of social merriment. People bury their hatchets with a warm embrace and throw their worries to the wind. Every nook and corner presents a typically colorful sight. Young and old alike are covered with colors (red, green, yellow, blue, black and silver). People in small groups are seen singing, dancing and throwing colors on each other." Basically we went and bought bags of colored powder and after they lit the effigy on fire, everyone (there was at least a thousand people there) ripped open their bags of colors and started throwing them at each other. We had managed to be right in front by the fire and for the first minute all I could see was a haze of color in the air. Really though, visibility was limited to about 10 feet. After that there was something of a concert type thing afterwards that was pretty crazy too with crowd surfing and everything.
All in all, it was a pretty crazy fun afternoon.

I am frightened of the sacrificial woman with a Halloween mask head and rubber cleaning glove hands! Peace and love . . . and some lotion please - my hands feel dry from the chalk.

Looks like you had fun. Living there most of my life I have never heard of that, but it looks like it would be a memorable experience. The kids keep asking when you are coming up to Washington, Dakota wants you there for his birthday!! (We told him you would probably still have school)
